Immigration

  • I will work to reclaim control of our borders

  • I will work to reform legal immigration policies to relieve many of the burdens on those trying to immigrate legally.

Unless you are Native American, you or an ancestor immigrated to this Country.  A valid argument can be made that Georgia would be much less prosperous without immigrants.  However, a look at the persons entering illegally shows a disproportionate number of persons with criminal history or terrorist connections. It is a matter of national security to keep out those with bad intentions.  I support full enforcement of our laws against illegal immigration and I support reform to the legal immigration process to smooth the process of  legal immigration.

Every country has the right and duty to decide who may enter its borders and who may become a citizen.  The countries from which illegal immigrants come exercise this right.  The massive illegal immigration we are seeing undermines national security and our integrity as a nation.  As sympathetic as the story of many of the illegal immigrants might be, granting them amnesty would undermine the rule of law and be fundamentally unfair to those who are forced to wait for years and spend a fortune to become legal immigrants here.

We must simultaneously reform the system for legal immigration. Applicants who could bring skills and other desirable qualities to the U.S. are forced to wait for years and spend a fortune to become legal immigrants here, while they watch millions of people who sneaked over the border or overstayed their visas take up residence and enjoy blessings of this great nation.
