Government Accountability

As your Representative, I will fight for
Government limited in scope:

  • I will not vote for any legislation which contains spending not specifically relevant to that legislation.  Legislation, which cannot be passed without earmarks being used to get the needed votes, needs to be refined until it can stand on its merits or voted down.

  • I will support the separation of powers doctrine and the checks and balances of the Constitution.  The lines between the Legislative, Judicial and Executive branches have been blurred in the name of political agenda resulting in a greatly diminished effectiveness of “checks and balances.”  Once the lines fade accountability disappears as well.

  • I commit to hold Congress fiscally accountable.  I will put forth a budget that balances the budget within 4 years without raising taxes.

  • I commit to reducing the government bureaucracy and restoring the freedom unrestricted and unsustainable bureaucracy has stolen.  The government of this great nation was created FOR the people - not the other way around.

I am the first to confirm that the commitments I make just above are daunting for anyone and to some they may seem impossible.  However, my career, both as an attorney and in the business world, demanded that I confront the established, the entrenched and the seemingly impossible every day with more than my fair share of success.  Arguably, the wisest and wealthiest man who ever lived once said that “the first to present his case seems right until another comes forward and questions him.”  Stated in the vernacular of those such as myself who fight the government goliaths every day in the courts, “no real change will ever occur until it is too painful to remain the same.”  The accountability factors I mention above will occur not because I say so, but because the pain of the people of this district is too great for them to be ignored any longer.

The pain imposed upon the people by government bureaucracy is too great to be ignored.  In the Metro Atlanta area, over 1000 school administrators make over $100,000.00 per year.  That is $1,000,000,000.00 per year on administration in salaries alone.  Yet, good dedicated teachers who seldom make half that much are being laid off.  A small business owner who wanted to expand her business and build a new building, spent 10 months getting approval of her plans - no significant changes were required.  When the new healthcare bill is completed - the 2500 page document that passed simply gave permission to create the rules and regulations necessary to implement the policy; it is estimated to be some 250,000 pages long and control some 6% of our entire economy.  The pain of goliath bureaucracy is too great to be ignored any longer.

The pain imposed on the people by Congress’ lack of fiscal responsibility is too much to be ignored.  Our debt to gross domestic product ratio is 90%.  Greece’s ratio is about 113%.  Most third world countries are nowhere near 90%.  Sound banks will seldom loan money to an individual or business if the ratio is over about 35%.  The time is here when this debt cannot be serviced.  Additional taxes will only further stifle the economy and result in the “stagflation” such as that experienced in the late 1970’s.
